Responsibilities
  • Assess nuclear facilities' compliance with CSA Group standards N287, N289, and N291
  • Review and assess submissions related to nuclear facilities' safety‑related civil structures, concrete containment structures, and seismic design
  • Review and evaluate periodic inspection reports
  • Provide civil engineering technical expertise during inspections at nuclear facilities and other compliance verification activities
  • Prepare reports, guides, procedures, and other documents and contribute to the development of regulatory documents and standards
  • Attend and participate in national and international technical and scientific meetings and organizations, as required
Essential Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in civil engineering
  • Language Requirements: English essential
  • Experience: 1‑10 years in civil engineering with emphasis on analysis, design, seismic design, evaluation, construction, inspection, decommissioning, and/or aging management (experience level suitable for REG5–REG7)
  • Knowledge: External hazards to civil structures (seismic, impact, blast, high wind, flood);
    Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modelling of civil structures;
    Nuclear industry including research, design, construction, operations and safety relating to CANDU reactors;
    Canadian nuclear regulatory framework including the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA) and related regulations
  • Ability: Communicate complex ideas effectively to a variety of audiences; work effectively in both office and virtual/telework settings; develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
Additional Qualifications
  • Post‑graduate degree in civil engineering
  • Experience related to nuclear facilities and/or recent experience with construction of nuclear facilities
  • Experience with seismic design related to nuclear facilities and application of the CSA N289 series of standards
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting seismological data
  • Knowledge of boiling water reactors and/or pressurized water reactors
  • Knowledge of other codes and standards, and industry reports (CSA Group, NBCC, IAEA, ASTM, EPRI, COG, IEEE, ANSI, etc.)
