Go back Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust

Trainee Bladder & Bowel Nurse Specialist

The closing date is 02 March 2026

Now is the time to be part of a healthcare transformation. The new NHS 10-Year Plan puts community care at the centre of service delivery--shifting resources closer to where people live and promoting prevention over hospital admission.

As a member of a community-based NHS trust, you'll be at the forefront of this change. Work in integrated neighbourhood teams, delivering joined-up care alongside GPs, mental health professionals, social workers, and voluntary services. Benefit from new roles, clear career pathways, apprenticeships, and personalised development support.

The plan also brings new workforce standards: improved flexible working, mental health support, safe workplaces, and strong protections against discrimination. With greater investment in underserved areas and a focus on reducing health inequalities, your work will have local impact and national importance.

Community trusts are leading the way in digital innovation, using tools like virtual wards to reduce admin and improve patient care.

If you're passionate about making a difference, this is your chance to help deliver a modern, inclusive, and community-focused NHS.

Main duties of the job

Are you a motivated Band 5 nurse looking to develop specialist clinical skills and progress your career? Join our Kent-wide Continence Service in a structured development role designed to support your transition to Band 6.

Working closely under the supervision and guidance of our Specialist Continence Nurse, you'll gain the advanced knowledge and hands‑on experience needed to assess, treat and support people with complex bladder and bowel conditions. You'll learn to complete holistic assessments, plan and implement individualised care plans, and build confidence in managing continence needs across a diverse caseload.

You will have a personalised professional development plan, co‑written with the Specialist Continence Nurse, outlining clear goals and time frames. All required competencies will be supported and developed, with the expectation that they are achieved within 12‑18 months to enable progression to Band 6.

Throughout your training, you'll work as a valued member of the team while receiving close supervision from specialist nurses and physiotherapists. We're looking for someone committed, enthusiastic and ready to grow within a supportive, expert service dedicated to improving continence care across Kent.

If you're passionate about developing specialist skills and advancing your nursing career, we'd love to support your journey.

Additional Working Pattern: m-f 9‑5
