Social Service Community Worker - Metepenagiag

Mi’gmaq Child and Family services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as a Social Service Community Worker with the Child in Care team in Metepenagiag.

The Social Service Community Worker provides direct, hands‑on support to clients in alignment with professional social work standards and under the guidance of social workers and the Director of Community.

The Social Service Community Worker is responsible for delivering services to vulnerable individuals, families, and communities with a focus on child protection, crisis intervention, family support, and prevention. The Social Service Community Worker will collaborate with a range of stakeholders and engage in advocacy efforts to promote human rights, social justice, and well‑being.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Support & Intervention
  • Provide hands‑on, client‑centered interventions aimed at improving social functioning and well‑being.
  • Assist in crisis intervention services, offering support in conflict resolution, assessment, and providing appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Monitor and supervise children in temporary care, ensuring homes and facilities meet acceptable standards and promote a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment.
  • Conduct basic risk and safety assessments and provide ongoing support in cases where children remain or are returning to families until identified risks have been resolved.
  • Support the implementation of case plans, including making planned and unplanned home visits
  • Participate in Family Group Conferences for case coordination and resolution.
  • Offer social support services, including life‑skills training, supervised visitations, and transportation services to families in need.
  • Administer basic assessment tools, contribute to assessments, and collaborate with professionals incase intervention planning and evaluation.
Crisis Management & Prevention
  • Provide assessment and intervention strategies for children and families in crisis situations.
  • Engage with and provide preventative services to at‑risk families and children, promoting a broad spectrum of counseling and support services to enhance family stability and child well‑being.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Child Protection/Prevention Social Workers, to ensure comprehensive service delivery.
  • Seek guidance and direction from the Director when risk factors are not resolving or when case management strategies need adjustment.
Advocacy & Social Justice
  • Advocate for human rights, social justice, and the welfare of vulnerable populations, including children, families, elders, and Indigenous communities.
  • Represent the organization in court, tribunals, and other settings when required, acting as a spokesperson and advocate for clients.
  • Liaise and collaborate with Indigenous leaders, Elders, and band administration to ensure culturally sensitive service provision, particularly for Indigenous individuals and communities.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including First Nation communities, band administration staff, addiction services, health care providers, education support services, police, and other service providers.
  • Participate in relevant community events, organizations, and committees to enhance community relationships and service delivery.
  • Contribute to team efforts through collaborative planning, including discharge planning and case evaluations.
  • Engage with external organizations and referral agencies, such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, emergency shelters, youth homes, and legal consultants.
Administrative Support & Documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records in compliance with organizational policies and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that case files, assessments, and reports are documented and safeguarded in line with audit and court preparation needs.
  • Assist with basic court‑related tasks, such as serving court documents, and providing testimony when required.
