Monona Parks & Recreation offers full day summer camp, MPR - GO (formerly Camp Winnequah), for kids in grades K-4. Counselors-in‑training (CITs) assist camp instructors and counselors in any or all areas of camper care and instruction. The CIT position also provides leadership growth opportunities through planning, goal setting, and generating enthusiasm for camp activities. CITs will need First Aid & CPR certification, which can be obtained on their own or in‑house through the American Red Cross on June 6th.
All CIT applicants should be interested in working with children and possess maturity, flexibility, a strong work ethic, and the ability to have fun.
This position requires the ability to work 15‑25 hours a week, in an outdoor working environment with shifts scheduled Monday‑Friday between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. Wednesday field trip shifts will be an 8‑10 hour shift. Mandatory training dates are June 11‑12. Camp dates are June 15‑August 21; priority will be given to staff who are available all 10 weeks of camp.
Responsibilities- Must be at least 14 years old at the start of employment and eligible to work in the United States.
- Must have a desire to work with and inspire children in a summer camp environment.
- Must be certified in First Aid and CPR at a minimum. These certifications may be obtained onsite on June 6th, 2026.
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the position, including working long hours in an active OUTDOOR camp program, including staying in the pool for an extended time.
- Ability to possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring First Aid and assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, emergency, illness, or injury).
- Knowledge of or ability to learn to use a variety of equipment, including sports, crafts, and waterfront equipment; office equipment and electronics.
- Must be able to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
