Under the direct supervision of the City of Monona Fire Chief, an LTE Firefighter/Paramedic provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team, in response to fire, rescue, hazmat, and other incidents. Additionally, an LTE Firefighter/Paramedic responds to medical emergencies and provides pre-hospital ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT care to victims of injury or illness. They make medical decisions based on standing orders, protocols, and orders from on-line and off-line medical direction.

After evaluation and scoring based on experience, education, and qualifications, applicants may be invited to an assessment center, which may include:
- Medical assessment by medical direction and department team
- Interview panel with department leadership
- Written exam
Applicants will be ranked based on performance in these assessments. Depending on the number of applicants, a second interview with the Chief may be conducted. Conditional job offers may be made after a thorough background check.
The following duties are typical for this position but are not all-inclusive; other duties may be added as needed:
- Perform complex diagnostic and medical procedures, including intravenous fluid administration, endotracheal intubation, recognition of cardiac arrhythmias, and medication administration.
- Drive and operate ambulance or other apparatus as assigned. Complete reports on patient care for hospital emergency departments.
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned apparatus, report conditions requiring repair, and ensure inventory and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Check medications and equipment daily to ensure proper control and inventory.
- Lay hose lines, operate nozzles, pumps, and hydrants; use fire extinguishers; operate tools.
- Participate in salvage and post-fire operations to reduce property damage.
- Participate in drills and training as directed.
- Perform maintenance of fire equipment and stations.
- Respond to accidents or medical emergencies.
- Transfer, lift, and move patients safely.
- Respond to hazardous materials incidents at an awareness level and assist as requested.
- Participate in public education programs.
- Conduct departmental training sessions.
- Use city computer systems for documentation and planning.
- Drive and operate fire apparatus following department procedures.
- Participate in daily physical training.
- Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- State of Wisconsin Firefighter I certification
- State of Wisconsin Paramedic certification
- Current ACLS, PALS, and BLS CPR certifications
- ICS 100 / 200 / 700 / NIMS 800
- Able to pass department human performance evaluation
- Meet all listed special requirements
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- 19 years or older
- Valid, insurable driver’s license
- U.S. citizen
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Good moral character
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years’ paramedic experience in a career/combination department
- State of Wisconsin Firefighter II certification
- Current NRP certification
- Experience working with volunteers
- Resident of Monona
