Our cross‑trained surgical staff supports a broad range of services including orthopedics, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, robotic‑assisted procedures, bariatrics, gynecology, podiatry, and endoscopy.

The OR team is composed of RNs, surgical technologists, CSFAs, and procedure support technicians, with staffing aligned to AORN standards for high‑quality, safe, and efficient care. Functions as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures in accordance with credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification. Assists OR staff in the assigned room/case, preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment as a scrub tech. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

• Graduate of a surgical technologist program.
• Completion of didactic and clinical components of the First Assistant program or competency verified by a sponsoring Piedmont surgeon during the orientation period.

• 3 years perioperative services experience.
• 2 years perioperative services experience.

• CST – Certified Surgical Technologist.
• BCLS – Basic Life Support.

• Certified surgical assistant (CSA), Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA), Surgical assistant, certified, (SA-C) or equivalent certification.
