Position Description

Leads, directs and coordinates the work of subcontractors and Turner trade labor regarding the Mechanical systems included in the project. Responsible for ensuring safety, schedule delivery, quality of work performed and adherence to budget of the project. The Superintendent Mechanical has supervisory responsibility for Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, Interns and trade labor in his/her area of responsibility.

Reports to:

Project Superintendent, Project Manager or MEP Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Managing and making decisions related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control and trade employee staffing levels for the mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Coordinating work among assigned trades to promote a coordinated project operation; resolving local area issues related to procedures, design clarifications, labor and equipment, and schedule.
  • Managing the overall site safety program and ensuring subcontractor compliance with Turner standards and applicable safety codes.
  • Supervising and developing Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers and/or interns, including providing input on performance appraisals as assigned.
  • Ensuring adherence to ethics and compliance requirements at all times.
  • Creating schedules, determining sequencing of work, and implementing recovery strategies to maintain project schedule and budget.
  • Communicating with owners and architects/engineers regarding field issues and resolving them.
  • Managing the billing process as it relates to work in place, including monthly estimates, payrolls, material invoices and subcontractor payments.
  • Ensuring work is installed in accordance with approved contract documents.
  • Collaborating with the Engineer on coordination for mechanical/electrical systems, equipment and piping layouts; coordinating with architects/engineers for approvals.
  • Leading project inspections, startup, commissioning, turnover and training for system handover.
  • Coordinating and directing subcontractors and suppliers to conform with plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Reviewing project changes with the Project Engineer and maintaining detailed daily records of MEPS progress.
  • Participating in preconstruction efforts (e.g., constructability, logistics).
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or at least four years of formal engineering or architectural experience and a minimum of six years of mechanical/electrical/plumbing construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Knowledge of building construction, means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, contracts, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications. Specific knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort reading contract documents, drawings and schedules.

Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands:
Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work around construction sites, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Vision requirements include close, peripheral and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus. Ability to stand, climb, kneel, crouch or crawl as needed.

Work Environment:
On-site construction environment with exposure to moving parts, high places, fumes, weather, and loud noises. May perform other duties as assigned.
