Position: INSTRUCTOR - Swanson Center for Youth

Overview

Louisiana is a State as a Model Employer. The Louisiana Special School District is experiencing a critical shortage of certified teachers. SOUTHSIDE ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL, located in Monroe, LA, is seeking applicants for a SPECIAL EDUCATION CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR. There is one position available. It will be filled immediately. Position #187009. This position is needed to cover active treatment within an Intensive Care Facility and will provide special education services to meet the legally mandated educational needs of children, adolescents, and young adults who have disabilities that impede educational and/or behavioral performance.

Responsibilities
  • Provide special education services to meet the educational needs of students in an Intensive Care Facility setting.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver rigorous, engaging instructional experiences by employing a total approach involving academics, communication, vocational, motor, self-help, and social subject matter; track student progress, reflect, and adjust to ensure academic growth; align job goals with the LEADS teaching rubric components.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable standards for state certification and school personnel requirements (as set forth in Louisiana standards and Bulletin 746).
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other staff as part of the interview and onboarding process and participate in required assessments and documentation as part of the application process.
Qualifications
  • Special Education certified instructor (required).
  • Must include all relevant education and experience on the official State application; official college transcripts must be submitted to verify credentials, attached to the online application or sent by fax to .
  • Transcripts or other requested documentation will be required prior to appointment; selected candidate will need to submit original documentation upon hire.
  • No Civil Service test score is required to be considered for this vacancy.
Additional Information

Physical activity requirements: the employee must be able to perform duties with reasonable accommodation under ADA; lifting of thirty to forty pounds may be required; some tasks involve moderate effort and brief periods of heavier exertion.
