Job Description
Performs various routine or special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory tests. The duties of a Medical Technologist may be specific to a particular area of the laboratory, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or the blood bank.
Responsibilities$10,000 Sign-on Bonus (night shifts) included for new grads and experienced techs!
- Achieve acceptable productivity levels without significant error rate on a variety of medical technology procedures, including testing on cells and microorganisms in body fluids, examining growth patterns of bacteria and fungus in patient specimens, analyzing blood and other body fluids, and performing blood compatibility testing.
- Demonstrate initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances to promote cooperation and minimize disruption.
- Assist in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
- Coordinate, plan, and utilize time efficiently; prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet lab customer needs; maintain inventory of supplies to avoid duplication.
- Maintain quality in all aspects of daily functions and work processes: specimen preparation, assaying, interpretation, and results reporting in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Perform quality control and instrument check procedures; keep accurate and complete records of daily activities.
- Combine ethical judgment with technical skill within policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory.
- Observe and adhere to all departmental and hospital policies, safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
- Exhibit a professional manner, appearance, and performance in the delivery of quality health care services; perform patient care duties with a humanistic attitude appropriate to patient age.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and others.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree - Training: temporary or letter of pending permit issued by LSBME
- Licensure:
Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist‑Generalist (CLS‑G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist‑Specialist (CLS‑S) with Registry in applicable specialty.
