Medical Assistant - Clinic Float
FMOL Health – Monroe, LA – $30,000.00–$50,000.00
The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. The role involves interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height), and recording data on patient charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests, and referrals.
Works under close supervision.
- Collect patient clinical data, including vital signs, chief complaint, allergies, and medication list.
- Maintain accurate medical records, notes, and physician orders in accordance with documentation standards.
- Prepare and administer medication per physician orders.
- Assist with minor surgical procedures (sutures, I&D, joint injections, mole removal, biopsy, laceration repair, PAP smear, etc.).
- Follow procedures for handling and processing specimens and cultures.
- Operate equipment such as EKG, scales, pulse oximeter, BP cuff, nebulizer, glucometer accurately.
- Assist with patient preparation for procedures.
- Coordinate patient referrals to other physicians or educational facilities within 2 days of notification.
- Ensure timely communication of test results, medication changes, and other care alterations to patients within 48 hours.
- Call prescription medications into the pharmacy as ordered.
- Demonstrate sensitivity, courtesy, and respect when interacting with patients and coworkers.
- Provide assistance to team members as needed.
- Address patient and family concerns effectively, minimizing complaints.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or 1 year clinical experience; no certification required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- BLS certification.
