Nursing Assistant

Job Description

The Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nursing Assistant assists with patient cleaning, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and assists nursing service personnel with other patient care duties. The role relies on established guidelines and works under close supervision.

• Assist in preparing unit and patient room and bed to ensure proper accommodation during the hospital stay.
• Accompany patients during admission, transfer, and discharge procedures with compassion and understanding.
• Take and record patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, intake-output) and document in CIS; also perform and record EKGs as directed.
• Assist patients with daily living activities such as bed bath, oral hygiene, dressing, positioning, pre- and post-operative care, and bed pan use.
• Prepare meals, serve food, and feed patients as needed.
• Transport patients to and from designated areas, ensuring identification bracelets and professional conduct.
• Retrieve medications from the pneumatic tube system and pharmacy, deliver to nurse or secure location.
• Answer patient call lights, maintain a clean and safe environment, and coordinate linen and supplies efficiently.
• Provide input for end-of-shift reports, contribute to unit quality assurance programs, and assist in staff educational and training programs.
• Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and specimen collection; support patient rehabilitation as directed by a Registered Nurse.
• Run inter-departmental errands such as transporting lab specimens or picking up medications.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
• Handle phone calls, intercoms, and computers accurately and efficiently.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• BLS certification required.
