Certified Nursing Assistant - 3rd Medical (nights)

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nursing Assistant assists with patient cleaning, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and assists nursing service personnel with a variety of other patient care duties.
Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.
- Provide patient care including personal hygiene, feeding assistance, and preparation for treatment.
- Assist with data collection (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, intake/output, weight) and report observations to the charge nurse promptly.
- Assist with transporting and mobility needs of patients as required.
- Assist with specimen collection and application of assistive devices (e.g., TED hose, ice packs); perform catheter care and surgical preps as needed.
- Keep patient rooms and nursing station areas orderly and clean.
- Provide respectful care to patients after death in accordance with established procedures.
- Anticipate patient needs and respond promptly within a minimum time frame.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the assigned/charge nurse; adapt care to patient needs and development level.
- Document patient care accurately and legibly on appropriate forms.
- Follow nurse instructions and hospital policies related to patient care routines and procedures; assist with admission and discharge as needed.
- Participate in unit teams, work groups, and committees as requested; volunteer to assist others when possible.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a CNA training program
- Communication and customer service skills; problem solving ability, initiative, good judgment
