Position Summary

A Machinist is a trained professional with mechanical aptitude and knowledge within the area of tooling, materials, and set‑ups to operate CNC machine tool resources for milling and turning. Machinists work independently and deliver efficient, quality, custom products, supporting multiple departments by producing low‑volume finished custom, to‑stock or repaired parts. The essential goal is to ensure effective production operations and optimize manufacturing procedures.

Essential Functions

• Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and set‑up requirements.
• Select, align and secure existing fixtures for efficient set‑ups; use the appropriate cutting tools, attachments and materials.
• Perform selection, editing and troubleshooting of CNC programs at the machine control.
• Set controls and enter commands for CNC programs to regulate machining factors such as speeds, feeds and coolant flow.
• Mentor others on general machining tasks using common machining principles.
• Use measuring tools or equipment (gauges, calipers, dial indicators, micrometers) for inspection.
• Perform part inspections and identify conformance or non‑conformance to specifications and blueprints.
• Operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Maintain good safety and housekeeping practices.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance and daily clean‑up of machines or work areas.

Competencies

• Basic computer skills.
• Proficient with interpreting CNC programs (G and M code, Mazatrol program languages preferred).
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules and work procedures.
• Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
• Multitask while minimizing downtime between machine run cycles.
• Good verbal communication.
• Good attendance and reliability.
• Attention to detail.
• Self‑motivation to work independently on assigned tasks.
• Promote teamwork and collaborate with other departments.
• Flexible to changes in the work environment; able to handle frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

Education or Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• 4+ years of related experience and training.
• Vocational training or related educational training is a plus.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
