Job Summary

In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the Technician Description, the Mechanic performs advanced maintenance, equipment installations, troubleshooting, and repairs of plant systems and building support equipment essential to operations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, repair, installation, fabrication, adjustment, and troubleshooting on plant equipment as needed.
  • Use diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to identify the root cause of equipment malfunctions.
  • Apply systematic troubleshooting methods (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic) to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve malfunctions with equipment such as cranes/hoists, 3-phase motors, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, HVAC units, pumps, exhaust fans, scrubbers, AMUs, and control systems.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on machinery and support systems, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and internal schedules to maximize uptime.
  • Carry out mechanical, electrical, and plumbing tasks as required.
  • Follow work instructions related to process line operations and equipment.
  • Address safety issues promptly and maintain compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage in accordance with plant requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Support quality standards by adhering to Quality System procedures and work instructions.
  • Participate in safe handling, labeling, containment, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Assist in special projects or other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory awareness by communicating usage or shortages to Supervisor.
  • Fabricate or modify parts and equipment as needed to support plant operations.
Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards
  • Exposure to sharp parts, heavy carts, seasonal high temperatures/humidity, working at heights, moderate noise levels, and compressed air (hearing protection required).
  • Must be able to wear respiratory protection when required.
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs unassisted.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Potential splash exposure near process lines; various chemicals used in processes.
Education/Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems acquired through hands‑on training.
  • Technical degree with minimum two (2) years of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and apply blueprints and schematics is preferred.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and positive attitude.
