Overview
Apply for the Utility Site Attendant role at Union County, NC. Under limited supervision, collect waste disposal fees, maintain a neat, organized collection site, direct traffic on the site, and provide information to customers. Must have good customer service skills and be able to work in all types of weather. Reports to the Union County Solid Waste Collections Supervisor.
Essential Functions- Assist customers by identifying solid waste material type and determining the appropriate cost and disposal method.
- Distinguish waste material from recyclable materials and provide sorting instructions to customers.
- Lead part‑time employees when working at the Solid Waste Management Facility.
- Maintain a clean workstation at the convenience center.
- Pick up spilled debris and keep the area around the convenience site clear.
- Calculate garbage fee totals on the spot, provide correct change, count cash collected, keep a daily log, and follow all Union County Cash Handling Procedures.
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding acceptable and unacceptable items at the Union County Convenience Center.
- Operate landscaping and light grounds‑maintenance machinery; remove litter from worksite and county roadways.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record per the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.
- Work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as assigned.

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle, light site‑maintenance equipment, hand tools, and office equipment. Must exert moderate force constantly and up to 80 pounds occasionally. Work may require walking or standing for a significant degree of time.
Work EnvironmentDynamic environment with dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions. Requires sensitivity to user needs and responsiveness to changing priorities.
