The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur.

** Description of Work
** The primary purpose of the Electronics Technician II (Radio Engineer I) within North Carolina State Highway Patrol is to provide maintenance of mobile and portable telecommunications equipment in the state and patrol vehicles. The assigned workstation is Troop H Headquarters Radio Shop in Monroe, NC (Union County)

** Salary Range:$43,738 - $76,542 Salary Grade NC 11
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
* Mobile and portable voice/data transmitting and receiving equipment.
* Mobile Data Computers ( MDC)
* Digital processed speed measuring instruments.
* Mobile and fixed video surveillance equipment.
* Mobile Antennas.
* Special electronic and telecommunications testing equipment and associated electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment.
** Analytical and Problem solving:
*** Diagnosing and repairing diverse electronic and telecommunications equipment.
* Continuously learning and adapting to evolving methods, processes and protocols.
* Reading and comprehending technical manuals and reference materials.
* Gaining and applying knowledge of NCSHP rules, regulations, policies, procedures, directives, documentation, training materials, and geographic areas.
** License:
** Electronic Technician positions require the possession of or the ability to obtain (within first year of employment) a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL).
** Minimum E & E

**** Work Schedule or Position/Physical Requirements
**** The work schedule is Monday
-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

** These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.
* Experience with assembly/disassembly of vehicles
* Experience with or working knowledge of installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunications equipment (including modems, GPS, radio transceivers and a variety of test equipment and antennas).
* Demonstrated safety and proficiency with the use of corded/cordless power tools, hand tools and shop equipment. (e.g. drill presses, band saws and grinding/sanding equipment).
