Process Engineering Internship – Melt

Here's what you will be doing:

• Work alongside Operations and Engineering teams to improve manufacturing processes and quality consistency.
• Create visual standards for quality metrics on the shop floor and update operating requirements.
• Develop measurement tools to check VAR furnace tilt and alignment to prevent furnace damage.
• Identify process improvement opportunities during ESR startup to enhance consistency and performance.
• Analyze process data to detect trends, improvement opportunities, and sources of variation.
• Develop or improve standard operating procedures to support consistent manufacturing execution.
• Collaborate with teams to investigate process issues and develop practical solutions.

The company is looking for candidates with:

• B.S. or graduate candidate in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Strong interest in thermo-mechanical processing of metals.
• Familiarity with Excel, Python, or Minitab/JMP for data analysis.
• Knowledge of stress-strain behavior, microstructure-property relationships, and process modeling.
• Ability to work in plant and shop-floor environments.

• 10-week summer internship program at Monroe, NC location.
• Hands-on experience in manufacturing process engineering within ATI's Monroe VIM and Remelt operations.
• Exposure to nickel melting technologies including VIM, VAR, and ESR processes.
• Opportunities to develop standard operating procedures and visual standards.
• Collaboration with Operations and Engineering teams on impactful projects.
• Potential opportunity to transition into a full-time Process Engineer position after graduation.
