Warehouse Associate; Part-Time Monroe

Overview

Performs a variety of retail and warehouse operations to ensure sales readiness and customer support at Southern States Cooperative, Inc. (SSC). Responsibilities include receiving merchandise, stocking shelves, maintaining showroom appearance, loading assistance, facility maintenance, and operating industrial equipment such as forklifts.

• Communicate with store leadership to receive daily assignments and provide timely information about receiving, inventory supply, customer orders, showroom appearance, facility maintenance, safety, loss prevention, and other critical factors.
• Provide prompt and courteous customer support, assist with filling orders, lifting and accessing products, loading merchandise into vehicles, verifying invoices, and securing loads.
• Receive merchandise deliveries at the warehouse, unload pallets, boxes, bulk items using forklift, front‑end loader, skid loader, pallet jack, and manual lifting; count, verify accuracy, inspect for damage, and notify supervisor of discrepancies.
• Move merchandise throughout the warehouse, perform pallet put‑away, store items in racking or designated locations, and sort for showroom replenishment.
• Stock showrooms, ensuring shelves and displays are neatly faced, organized, and accessible; perform recovery according to facility procedures.
• Reconfigure store shelving, build endcaps, and create merchandise displays; read merchandising diagrams (plan‑ograms).
• Deliver bulk or packaged merchandise to customer locations using SSC vehicles.
• Fill propane cylinders and operate all propane‑related equipment per safety protocols and licensing requirements.
• Assist with physical inventory checks.
• Monitor entrances/exits to promote store security, safety, and minimize merchandise loss; report concerns to leadership.
• Inspect forklifts and other equipment daily; report maintenance needs and assist with upkeep.
• Perform daily housekeeping and general maintenance of warehouse, showroom, outside lot, and display areas; keep aisles and walkways clear. May perform lawn care, snow removal, painting, and other general maintenance assignments.
• Work safely, use PPE, comply with OSHA regulations, Southern States EHS standards, work rules and policies.
• Perform all other job functions as assigned.

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Previous experience in a warehouse handling inventory and operating industrial equipment (forklift, front‑end loader, pallet jack, skid loader). Customer‑focused communication skills and familiarity with the agricultural industry are a plus; prior Southern States work experience is preferred.

Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain within a given period).

• Commercial Driver's License (or ability to obtain within a given period).
• Propane Certification (or ability to obtain within a given period).

• Able to learn and operate forklift, front‑end loader, pallet jack, skid loader, or other industrial equipment.
• Able to understand and follow safety, quality control and operating procedures.
• Able to identify and locate merchandise using labels, barcodes, reports and tracking methods.
• Able to apply logic and understanding to carry out written, oral or diagram instructions.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages.
• Able to communicate effectively with customers.
• Attention to detail.
• English language proficiency.
• Paperwork completion in a legible, organized and timely manner.
• Work in a fast‑paced team environment.
• Work extended hours during peak seasons.

Primarily a warehouse environment (often non‑climate controlled with seasonal temperatures and humidity), a retail showroom, and occasionally outdoors. Hazards may include drafts, temperature changes, wet floors, sharp edges, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and noise. Safety equipment such as hard hats, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, PPE, RF scanners, and safety knives may be required.

• Continuous balance, bend, stretch, reach, stand, walk, and twist for extended periods.
• Lift, push, pull, carry 10–100 pounds (unassisted or assisted).
• Drive motorized equipment.
• Frequent crouch, kneel, stoop.
• Perform repetitive motion while driving equipment.
