Fabrication Shop Helper

Job Summary

Reporting to the superintendent or foreman, the helper performs a variety of unskilled manual labor tasks such as moving, lifting, carrying, cleaning, painting, and using, supplying, or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work areas and equipment.

• Follow specific directions from project supervision.
• Assist with the layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, repairs of industrial piping systems.
• Clean and prepare construction sites by removing debris and possible hazards; restock supplies and materials.
• Assist craft workers by performing any combination of the following tasks: lifting, positioning, and removing work pieces from machinery and assemblies.
• Assisting in fitting and welding, fabrication, assembly, alteration, and repair of products and equipment.
• Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure.
• Help set up tools and equipment.
• Assist with gathering, loading, transporting, and unloading materials, tools, equipment and supplies required for performance of work.
• Assist moving parts into position manually or by hoist, cranes, jigs, fixtures, clamps, and jacks.
• Furnish experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist in minor maintenance and cleaning activities of tools, equipment, and facility for a safe work area.
• Maintain good housekeeping and a safe work area.
• Perform other routine duties as directed by experienced crafts person.

• Mechanically inclined or individuals who would like to get into welding or pipe fitting.
• Ability to multi-task various projects with a level of detail.
• Work under close supervision.
• Follow assigned work instructions (mainly verbal).
• Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and craft workers.
• Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn operations and equipment.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

• Ability to exert up to 70 pounds of force (pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying, etc.).
• Ability to balance, sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handle for 12 or more hours.
• Ability to work at unprotected heights and around moving machinery including vibrating machinery and tolerate environmental conditions consisting of heat, in extreme cold temperatures, noise, vibration, fumes, and dust.
• Ability to climb and work from stairs or ladder to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to operate trucks and lifts in a safe manner and adhere to all company safety requirements.
• Must be able to use hand and power tools.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Either naturally or with the aid of eyeglasses.

High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in mechanical fields is preferred, but not required.
