Role Overview
The Head Brewer plays a key role in the success of our brewery. You will oversee all brewing and cellaring operations, ensuring quality, consistency, and high standards in every batch produced. This role requires excellent communication, leadership, and organization skills to coordinate schedules, manage COGS, develop recipes, and ensure smooth day-to-day production. You will work closely with the Brewmaster, Production Manager, and Quality/QA team to deliver exceptional products while maintaining a positive, high-performance work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Brewery Leadership & Operations:
    Lead and supervise the brewing and cellaring team, ensuring smooth daily operations from grain to glass.
  • Production Scheduling:
    Create and manage production schedules to meet demand and sales forecasts.
  • Budget Management:
    Maintain budget targets, including cost per BBL and operational expenses.
  • Supplier Management:
    Partner with suppliers for raw material forecasting, purchasing, and inventory management.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Constantly pursue improvements in brewing processes, efficiency, and beer quality.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Resolve equipment, staffing, or production issues promptly.
  • Team Development:
    Develop and lead a strong, motivated brewing team that meets or exceeds production goals.
  • Staff Planning:
    Plan staffing needs as volume scales and production evolves.
  • Inventory Management:
    Manage inventory with a Just-In-Time approach when feasible.
  • COGS Forecasting:
    Forecast COGS needs for approval.
  • Shift Scheduling:
    Schedule labor, maintenance days, and production shifts based on operational needs.
  • Brew Schedule Alignment:
    Align brew schedule with sales demand and maintain appropriate tank PAR levels.
  • Quality Culture:
    Foster a culture focused on quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Recipe Development:
    Develop recipes for core, seasonal, and pilot beers.
  • QA

    Collaboration:

    Work closely with QA Manager to ensure top-tier product quality.
  • Hands‑on Participation:
    Participate in brewing and cellar shifts to maintain operational expertise.
  • Reporting:
    Submit weekly production updates to leadership every Monday.
  • Meetings:
    Lead or attend monthly brewing and safety meetings.
  • Record Keeping:
    Maintain accurate brewing, cellaring, and inventory records and logs.
  • Culture & Leadership:
    Build and maintain a positive, respectful, transparent team culture.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/move 55+ lbs repeatedly and handle full kegs as needed.
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and working in hot, cold, wet, or noisy environments.
  • Ability to bend, climb, kneel, and safely use ladders or elevated platforms.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of professional brewing equipment, systems, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in cleaning/sanitation and CIP processes.
  • Yeast management and fermentation expertise.
  • Ability to perform quality checks, recordkeeping, and follow SOPs.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment.
