• Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories
• Perform physical exams and create treatment plans
• Conduct diagnostics and dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Participate in medical management of patients
• Develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

• Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules
• Open to all veterinary students (regardless of class year) to participate in NVA externships
• Veterinary students in the clinical portion are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend
• Stipend amounts and details are available within the program materials
