Community Action Agency of South Alabama is seeking a Family Community Advocate for its Monroe County location.

This service position delivers direct services to children and families within the agency's geographic area. The role involves screening clients for eligibility, gathering documentation, and providing assistance from various funding sources while ensuring adherence to funding guidelines. The Advocate evaluates client situations, makes decisions about best funding combinations, and establishes collaborative relationships with utility companies and diverse populations, achieving positive results.

• Maintain data for Head Start families and community resources.
• Recruit and enroll eligible families in Head Start and Early Head Start programs, assessing eligibility per regulations.
• Provide family support services, establish relationships, record needs, and refer to community resources.
• Maintain accurate records and submit to staff.
• Make personal contacts with families at the center, county office, and home.
• Familiarize with LIHEAP manual.
• Collect, organize, and distribute information to families.
• Collect data for community assessment of disadvantaged people.
• Support families in arranging health services.
• Identify and use community resources.
• Share general information with parents and customers.
• Initiate family partnership process with follow‑up and documentation.
• Support school readiness through engagement.
• Coordinate with service providers to fulfill client needs.
• Ensure proper follow‑up for client self‑sufficiency.
• Maintain records of meetings, referrals, and plans in Easy Track and FACSPro.
• Maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Dedicate to the agency’s mission.

• Conduct comprehensive assessment covering Emergency/Crisis, Transportation, Money Management/Life Skills/Education, Job Training, Mental Health, Family of Incarcerated, Parenting Education, Employment, Housing, Medical, Physical/Social/Emotional, Resource Analysis and Planning, Energy Counseling.

• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Complete 30 hours of training (excluding agency-provided).
• Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining accounting systems; proficient with micro and mainframe computers.
• Strong administrative practices and file organization.
• Neat appearance and pleasing personality.
• Ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
• Proficiency in required office equipment.
• Strong written and oral instruction interpretation.
• Valid driver’s license.

Patient, calm, resourceful, problem-solving, planning, organizational skills. Must handle tasks such as sitting, standing, stooping, bending, walking, talking, hearing, hand use, typing, reaching. May require standing or walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, running short distances. Up to 4 hours per day in strenuous activity, lifting 30 lbs or more six to eight times in an 8‑hour shift.
