Led by Dr. Ajay Goel, Professor and Founding Chair, our multidisciplinary group undertakes translational studies of the genomic and epigenomic characterization of gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal, pancreatic, gastric, esophageal, and hepatocellular cancers. We publish in high‑impact journals such as Nature Cancer, Nature Communications, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA Oncology, JNCI, and Clinical Cancer Research.
Potential Tenure TrackThis position may become tenure‑track upon receipt of federal grant funding lasting 3–5 years.
Key Scientific Interests- Development of cell‑free DNA, RNA, and exosomal liquid assays for early cancer detection and therapy response prediction.
- Study of genetic and epigenetic bases of GI cancers, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non‑coding RNAs.
- Investigation of the gut microbiome and its translational application in gastrointestinal cancers.
- Genetic basis of early‑onset colorectal cancer and hereditary colorectal cancer.
- Role of extracellular vesicles/exosomes in cancer pathogenesis and biomarker discovery.
- Tumor microenvironment, stem cells, immune regulation, and identification of novel targeted therapies.
- Cancer prevention and adjunctive natural and integrative therapy approaches.
- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with strong background in oncology, cancer biology, immunology, or immunotherapy.
- Prior molecular, cancer biology, and translational research experience; evidence of project development and supervision of post‑doctoral fellows and technical staff.
- High‑impact peer‑reviewed publications, first or lead author.
- Successful extramural funding from foundations or other resources.
- Mentoring experience with post‑docs, research associates, and others in a laboratory environment.
