Job Summary
Position at Judd Wire, Inc. – Braid Machine Operator (3rd Shift) at our Turners Falls, MA facility. The role involves measuring, inspecting, testing, and re-spooling wire and cable in preparation for shipping or the next operation. Targeted training is provided for all skill levels starting on day 1.
Hiring Range: $19.67–$23.62 per hour, plus a $3.00 per hour 3rd shift differential.
Responsibilities- Work from orders, special customer requirements, requisitions, and verbal instructions regarding wire gauge, number of ends, and picks or crossovers per inch; track footage required on the order and footage delivered from previous operations; meet schedules; work in the BPCS system.
- Maintain the desired number of ends; mount bobbins on braider carriers leading to ends of braiding point.
- Maintain good traverse during braiding operations; use a micrometer to check wire gauges. Separate different gauges for use, return to stock. Follow SOPs; change take‑up reels before they become overfilled. Make minor adjustments to ensure smooth machine operation, motor speeds, and tension on carrier stems.
- Perform minor maintenance including oiling of machines. Cut loose ends of braid, separate bobbins, box for return to vendor, and keep guards and shield over pulley gears and chain. Know raw material part and lot numbers as necessary.
- Utilize computer system to determine raw materials inventory as required to complete orders. May contact other departments regarding raw materials.
- Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, and unusual conditions to supervision. Observe all safety rules and regulations. Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Perform other similar or related duties as assigned or instructed by supervisor.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of ordinary arithmetic including decimals, fractions, and simple use of specification, together with use of adjustable measuring instruments.
- Position requires moderate physical effort consisting of frequent moving and lifting up to 50 lb, pushing, pulling, etc.
- Working conditions may expose the employee to noise, fumes, dust, hot and cold temperatures, etc.
