Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing customer service, cashiering, monitoring, and processing customers through the facility’s scale house at the Logan Landfill. The position also includes the operation of a variety of light, medium and heavy equipment for the management of solid waste disposed of at the facility. It involves working in the landfill scale house and landfill operations regarding the collection and management of municipal solid waste, household hazardous waste, compost, green waste and bulky waste disposed of at the Public Tipping Area, Waste Diversion/Recycling Areas, and active landfill cells.
Performs a variety of facility and site maintenance duties including snow/ice removal, litter clean up, building/site housekeeping, and assists with special projects assigned by supervisor. The position reports to the Assistant Solid Waste Director and does not supervise other personnel.
Work ScheduleWednesday – Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Customer service, cashiering, record keeping, basic office equipment operations, and operation of light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment (loaders, haul trucks, roll-off trucks, mini-excavators, skid steers, mowers, weed eaters, and snow/ice removal equipment).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including full boxes of office paper, facility records, bulky waste items, HHW/oil/antifreeze waste containers, and litter bags.
- Monitoring and maintaining safety protocols, working effectively under adverse weather and site conditions, and coordinating tasks and procedures with others.
- Knowledge and skills in the use of computers, printers, software systems and email communications (preferred).
- Experience and knowledge with state and federal solid waste rules and regulations (preferred).
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma plus two (2) years of experience in retail or customer service, cashiering, office operations, light and medium duty equipment operations, or a related field.
Licenses and CertificationsApplicant must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana or obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County’s liability policies. Safety task training and certification for First Aid/AED/CPR and 24 HAZWOPER will be provided during the first year of employment.
Background CheckAs a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal and driving background check.
