Job Responsibilities and Duties

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Planner

The Planner maintains separate technical ownership for each discipline while coordinating shared outages, resources, and work-management processes to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.

The Planner's primary duties are:

  • Incorporate hazards, controls, permits, isolation requirements, task qualifications, environmental controls, and return-to-service requirements into planned work.
  • Participate in field walkdowns, inspections, audits, and safety meetings; verify compliance with MSHA, site standards, and stationary-maintenance.
  • Plan preventive, predictive, corrective, and major-repair work for hoists, conveyors, crushers, feeders, pumps, dewatering and ventilation systems, fans, compressors, piping, valves, structures, hydraulic and lubrication systems, and other fixed mechanical assets.
  • Define work scope using field condition, equipment history, inspections, condition-monitoring results, OEM recommendations, and reliability findings.
  • Plan component replacement, alignment, welding, machining, rigging, lifting, lubrication, inspection, isolation, and mechanical commissioning requirements.
  • Validate mechanical parts, repairable spares, wear components, fabricated items, rigging equipment, and specialty tools before scheduling.
  • Maintain mechanical equipment history, failure codes, bills of materials, standard jobs, and repair records.
  • Develop long-range, monthly, weekly, and daily schedules aligned with approved priorities, preventive-maintenance needs, production requirements, equipment access, shutdown windows, and available resources.
  • Resource-load and sequence ready work; confirm labor, skills, materials, tools, test equipment, contractors, work areas, and technical support are available.
  • Facilitate planning and scheduling meetings and communicate priorities, constraints, outages, schedule changes, and maintenance impacts to Supervisors and affected stakeholders.
  • Partner with the responsible General Foreman to establish maintenance priorities, approve weekly and long-range schedules, and align planned work with operational objectives.
  • Escalate resource, access, outage, and operational constraints to the responsible General Foreman for resolution.
  • Ensure Environmental Excellence is practiced throughout area of responsibility by identifying issues and coaching peers to enhance practices.
  • Maintain standards and expectations for quality housekeeping, escalating non-conformance issues when necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage competing demands.
  • Ability to estimate labor, materials, duration, and cost with reasonable accuracy.
  • Ability to distinguish mechanical requirements and recognize multidisciplinary dependencies.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, specifications, manuals, and work orders.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration, coordination, and relationship-building skills across technical and operational groups.
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling, including scoping, estimating, backlog management, resource loading, shutdown coordination, and schedule compliance.
  • Underground fixed-plant and stationary-maintenance practices.
  • Fixed mechanical assets, including hoists, conveyors, crushers, pumps, ventilation, and dewatering systems.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings, schematics, specifications, equipment manuals, and maintenance records.
  • Five years of relevant stationary, fixed-plant, industrial mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, maintenance-planning, or closely related heavy-industrial experience.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in maintenance technology, electrical technology, mechanical technology, engineering technology, asset management, business, or a related field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience planning or scheduling maintenance work, including work scoping, labor and material estimating, backlog management, and work-order preparation preferred.
  • Journeyman-level trade qualification or equivalent technical training in industrial electrical, instrumentation, millwright, mechanical, welding, or fixed-plant maintenance…
