Job Overview

Hydro Geo Logic , Inc. (HGL) is seeking a full‑time Water Treatment Plant Operator II to support operations at the Belt Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Central Montana. The role is a primary team member of on‑site project personnel, responsible for operating the treatment plant, monitoring plant performance, and managing a small team of part‑time operators. The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, experience in water treatment plant operation, and the ability to work independently around the clock, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor a variety of water pumping stations and treatment plant facilities.
  • Perform surface and groundwater sampling activities and preserve samples according to established project SOP guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain all capture systems, water conveyance lines, and electrical lines onsite.
  • Maintain weekly pumpback checks and record flow and discharge data.
  • Collect influent/effluent samples and assist with field lab analyses (pH, specific conductivity, arsenic, and metals).
  • Provide general site maintenance, including stormwater controls, snow removal, freight, and fencing.
  • Assist with scheduled and non‑routine preventative maintenance of pumps and equipment.
  • Operate HDPE fusion machine and other equipment (4‑wheel drive pickup, mini excavator, skid steers, manlifts).
  • Comply with QA/QC policies, including readiness reviews, and procurement policies.
  • Prepare and maintain Excel‑based spreadsheets summarizing site performance.
  • Assist with construction and demolition activities as directed by HGL site management.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance inspections and service on plant and pumping station equipment.
  • Manage up to two part‑time Plant Operators, including scheduling and mentoring.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years applicable work experience.
  • 1+ year additional training in treatment plant operation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Mechanical aptitude for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions covering all critical site work activities and SOPs.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Windows software.
  • Strong team‑member skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (or obtain within first 30 days of employment).
Preferred Skills
  • Prefer candidates with a minimum of three years of industrial experience, mechanical aptitude, and prior 8‑hour shift work experience.
  • Prefer background in water treatment plants in a mining setting.
  • Prefer knowledge of chemical handling and safety.
  • Welding, mechanical, and/or electrical experience.
  • Previous management experience a plus.

This is a full‑time role with 40 hours per week anticipated. The schedule is 5 days on with occasional weekend coverage.
