Salary: $75,000 - $100,000 annually

Gregory Switzer Architecture PC (GSAPC) is seeking an experienced Project Architect to join our fast‑growing, design‑focused architectural practice headquartered in Montclair, New Jersey. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional who brings strong leadership, deep technical knowledge, exceptional design sensibility, and the ability to drive multiple projects simultaneously in both New York and New Jersey.

This position requires a full‑time, daily in‑office presence to support real‑time collaboration, team coordination, direct mentorship, and efficient project delivery. This is not a hybrid or remote role. Occasional evening public hearings (Planning Board, Zoning Board, HPC (Historic Preservation Commission), Community Board) are part of the responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all phases of architectural projects, from concept through construction administration, across NY and NJ jurisdictions.
  • Oversee development of drawings, technical details, specifications, and coordination sets with precision and efficiency.
  • Produce and review documents in Revit with speed, accuracy, and adherence to GSAPC graphic/BIM standards.
  • Demonstrate building design expertise, expert‑level knowledge of materials, detailing, assemblies, code compliance, and building systems.
  • Manage consultant coordination (MEP, structural, civil, landscape) and ensure integration and quality control.
  • Conduct zoning analysis, DOB/UCC code reviews, building department research, DRC (Development Review Commission) submissions, and HPC packages.
  • Lead planning board, zoning board, and HPC presentations—including preparation of drawings, exhibits, and narratives.
  • Conduct site visits, field narrative reports, and documentation of existing conditions.
  • Oversee construction administration including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, punch lists, and close‑out.
  • Must have a knowledge and understanding of AIA documents.
  • Mentor junior staff and guide project teams in efficient design, drafting, and BIM workflows.
  • Coordinate project schedules, milestones, and deliverable deadlines in alignment with firm‑wide project management systems.
Qualifications
  • Must be a licensed Architect in New York or New Jersey (required).
  • Must be able to work legally and professionally on projects in both NY and NJ.
  • Mastery of AutoCAD and Revit is required.
  • Must be skilled in architectural design, detailing with speed, technical accuracy, and professional clarity.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in architecture.
  • Extensive experience with institutional, commercial, municipal, and/or mixed‑use projects.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative, office‑centered environment.
