This is a contract position for a Conceptual Math Tutor specializing in the Asian abacus mental math system, known as Zhusuan in China and Soroban in Japan, which is a method where practitioners perform rapid arithmetic by mentally visualizing the movements of abacus beads. The tutor will conduct personalized, one-on-one, or small-group sessions with students to enhance their mathematical skills using the abacus method.

Responsibilities include lesson planning, delivering instruction, evaluating student progress, and maintaining regular communication with parents. This is an on-site role based in and around Essex County, NJ requiring availability to accommodate family schedules as needed.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Mathematics and Algebra with a strong understanding of the Asian abacus mental math system
• Experience in Tutoring and Online Tutoring, with the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students and parents
• Passion for education and working with children of varying age groups
• Prior experience working with students in a tutoring or teaching capacity
• Ability to work on-site in Northern NJ
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field preferred
• Familiarity with teaching tools and strategies for developing conceptual understanding in math is a plus
