Position Information
Open Competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list of "As Needed" candidates to fill temporary vacancies.
General PurposeUnder the general supervision of school administrators, teachers and support staff, a Yard Supervision Aide assists and oversees students' activities in and around designated areas within school sites.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsA Yard Supervision Aide is distinguished from Instructional Assistants in that they do not provide instructional support to teachers. Their activities are limited to non‑instructional support, activities outside of the classroom.
They are also distinguished from Campus Security Officers, who supervise students conduct to prevent vandalism, theft or other illegal activities. Yard Aides maintain order outside of the classroom under the supervision of school administrators, teachers or support staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervises students while they are eating lunch, recess, and before and after school.
- Directs students in appropriate clean‑up behavior after lunch.
- Oversees and checks various student‑related activities on the playground in the presence of school staff.
- Accompanies students to and from lunch areas and playgrounds.
- Assists students as they arrive to or depart from school.
- Maintains staging area for students who ride and get off from various publicly and privately owned and operated transportation systems.
- Participates in outdoor activities with students.
- Monitors students' behavior, and refers students to school staff for disciplinary actions.
- Distributes to and collects from students materials, outside of the classroom.
- Participates in emergency drills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- District rules and procedures, including methods and techniques for student safety.
- Effective communication methods, in both writing and orally.

- Treat all students in a fair, impartial and respectful manner.
- Follow written and oral instructions.

- Use district‑provided equipment related to assigned tasks.
- Dress appropriately in accordance with the work environment.
- Work effectively with others.
- Graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or higher, is preferred.
- Six months of similar work experience is preferred.

Special Requirements
- Some assignments may require the ability to communicate in a designated second language.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, walk, run, and crawl.
- Perform light physical exertion.
- Lift 20 pounds.
- Carry 15 pounds.
- Reach in all directions.
- Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.
- Work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
- Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
