Assistant - Laboratory Phlebotomist PD Variable
JOB SUMMARY Laboratory Assistants/Phlebotomists are non-professional personnel with training in areas of the clinical laboratory useful to the overall efficiency and smooth operation of the laboratory. These areas include phlebotomy, preparation of send‑out tests, answering the telephone, and assisting in chemistr, hematology, and microbiology. The purpose of this job description is to provide information on how this assistance can be given.
The candidate must work independently and meet all Laboratory Assistant requirements. They should be versatile and a team player, coordinating duties to relieve the Clinical Laboratory Scientist, performing phlebotomy and processing (including send‑out and microbiology set‑ups), managing LIS and billing, and demonstrating proficiency on automated instruments.
- High school education or equivalent experience (AA or Bachelor's preferred).
- Two years of experience as a phlebotomist.
- Certified for venipuncture and skin puncture CPT.
- Good communication in English, both written and verbal.
- Minimum four years in a clinical laboratory with at least two years as a Laboratory Technician, lead laboratory assistant, or Lab Assistant Supervisor, or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of LIS experience and computer proficiency.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience operating automated chemistry, hematology, or microbiology instruments.
- Ability to work well under supervision and in stressful situations.
- BCLS Card (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
