VISION

STATEMENT

CASA/LA’s vision is a Los Angeles in which all children and families impacted by the child welfare and juvenile justice systems have equitable access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

ORGANIZATON MISSION

CASA of Los Angeles organizes the community to take action and advocate for children and families in LA County’s overburdened child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

Organization Overview

CASA of Los Angeles mobilizes community volunteers to advocate for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. The organization envisions a Los Angeles in which every child in the child welfare system has a dedicated advocate and the opportunity to thrive. CASA of Los Angeles is on a path to expand services across LA County so that it reaches a meaningful number of the 26,000 children in the dependency court system each year.

Key to this effort is sustained growth in the number of volunteers trained annually, the number who remain active throughout the year, and the revenue raised through community partners and donors.

CASA/LA also aims to support expectant and parenting youth and non‑minor dependents in the child welfare system so that their children do not enter the system, helping to break intergenerational cycles of involvement. Supporting expectant and parenting youth begins prenatally. It is critical that youth in foster care receive the medical, emotional, social, and concrete resources needed to experience a healthy, safe, and stable pregnancy.

Position Overview

The Expectant and Parenting Youth Resource Specialist reports to the Early Childhood Program Manager and plays a key role in supporting expectant and parenting youth through coordinated, youth‑centered services. This position participates in Expectant and Parenting Youth (EPY) Conferences, providing critical knowledge, guidance, and connection to resources that help youth navigate pregnancy and early parenting while in foster care.

The EPY Resource Specialist also facilitates referrals to CASA of Los Angeles for the appointment of CASA volunteers and supports the advocacy process by managing a small caseload of CASA Volunteers assigned to EPY cases. Through collaboration, relationship‑building, and systems coordination, this role helps ensure youth receive consistent, informed, and compassionate support during a pivotal stage of their lives.
