Staff Accountant-GL
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARYPURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Sr. Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for independently performing both routine and non-routine accounting and financial reporting functions for Dole Fresh Vegetables and subsidiary entities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:- Obtain data necessary for month-end closing entries and perform month-end duties as assigned.
- Prepare general ledger journal entries and verify the accuracy of recorded accounting transactions particularly those related to intercompany payables, accrued liabilities, and cash transactions.
- Perform cash reconciliations between the bank and general ledger.
- Prepare check requests and perform check runs.
- Set‑up new vendors and assist with vendor management.
- Identify discrepancies in accrued liabilities, cash, and accounts payable to provide variance explanations and bring them to management’s attention.
- Monthly/quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile accounting subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger (AR, prepaids, AP, intercompany payables, accrued liabilities, cash accounts, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience in preparing escheatment filings.
- Prepare various ad‑hoc accounting reports as requested by management, as well as corporate for month‑end and quarter‑end including financial reporting disclosures.
- Help ensure company financial statements are in accordance with GAAP.
- Document general ledger account descriptions, policies and procedures and reporting requirements.
- Other internal projects and duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
- 2-4 years’ experience in accounting or accounts payable.
- Strong ERP software experience required.
- Escheatment, accounts payable and vendor management experience strongly preferred.
- Intermediate Excel skills to include XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and pivot tables.
- Work experience in the agriculture industry is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), procedures and application.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail with focus on accuracy.
- Ability to multitask and work independently.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time.
- The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 15 lbs.
Ability to work beyond normal business hours, including weekends as needed.
EXPERIENCE &EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- OR
- Associates degree in Accounting plus 5 years of accounting experience
- $76,000 - $82,000 Annually
