Job Description & How to Apply Below

AMP Media is hiring a part-time Field Technician to run multi-camera broadcasts of local government meetings and to crew field shoots across the Monterey Peninsula. Pay is $20 per hour.

About AMP Media

AMP Media (Access Media Productions) is the nonprofit community and public-access media station serving Monterey County. We broadcast and livestream city council and agency meetings so residents can follow local decisions, and we produce live events, sports and community programs.

About the role

Your core assignment is a recurring government meeting: you set up the room, run the cameras and the live stream for the length of the meeting, and close everything down cleanly. When we need extra hands, you also join our field crews as a camera operator for sports, conferences, keynotes and other live broadcasts.

What you'll do
  • Set up the control room before each meeting: cameras, video switcher, audio and streaming equipment.
  • Confirm the live stream and recording are running before the meeting is called to order.
  • Switch the multi-camera show for the full meeting, following speakers and keeping the broadcast clean and steady.
  • Monitor audio and the stream throughout, and catch problems before viewers do.
  • Stay alert and focused through meetings that run from 1 to 5 hours.
  • Close out the space: end the stream, save recordings, power down and leave the room as you found it.
  • Troubleshoot calmly when something goes wrong, and report issues so we can fix them for next time.
  • Operate cameras on field shoots as needed, including high school sports, conferences, keynotes and community events.
What we're looking for

This is an entry-level role with hands-on training on our systems, so dependability and attitude matter more than a long resume.

  • Reliability above all. You show up on time, every time.
  • Genuine interest in local government. You find civic decisions interesting enough to stay sharp from the first gavel to the last.
  • Comfort with cameras and AV equipment, including a basic understanding of audio.
  • Working knowledge of Zoom, including how to adjust its audio, video and sharing settings.
  • A problem-solving mindset. Once trained, you can think a step ahead and work through a technical issue on your own.
Nice to have
  • Videography experience or a portfolio that shows a good eye behind the camera.
  • Familiarity with live streaming tools such as Stream Yard or OBS. We will teach you what you don't know.
  • Experience with video switchers or multi-camera live production.
Schedule and pay
  • $20 per hour, part-time.
  • Required:

available the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings of each month (about 2 meetings a month, 1 to 5 hours each).
  • Optional extra hours:
Tuesday and Thursday evenings for special meetings or other agency contracts.
  • Field shoots as needed, mostly Fridays and Saturdays.
