Job SummaryPosition:
Dental Assistant at Salinas Valley State Prison (Psychiatric Inpatient Program), Soledad, CA. Limited Term 12 months, may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Responsibilities- Assist the Dentist in dental procedures under the supervision of the Supervising Dental Assistant.
- Make appointments for patients and maintain patient schedules.
- Prepare, arrange, and sterilize dental instruments, equipment, and accessories.
- Maintain a sufficient amount of dental supplies and keep the office and equipment neat, clean, and sanitary.
- Record and store dental records of patients.
- Assist dentist at the chair and take and develop dental x-rays.
- Perform dental laboratory functions.
- Instruct patients in proper practices of preventive dental care.
- Maintain order and supervise the conduct of persons committed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
- Prevent escapes and injury by inmates, maintain security of working areas and materials.
- Inspect premises and search inmates for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs.
- Perform other related work as required.
- One year of experience as a dental assistant.
- Training in a school for dental assistants may be substituted, with three months of training equivalent to six months of experience.
- Eligibility for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered.
