PURPOSE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Disability Management Advising
  • Retention-focused disability management consultation, strategies, interventions, and confidential counseling for at-risk students with disabilities.
  • Determines eligibility and disability accommodations through an interactive process with each student, including but not limited to intake interviews, interpretation of educational and diagnostic assessment results, and neurological reports. Interprets and applies federal and state mandates, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the related California statutes, interprets and utilizes CSU policy, including but not limited to the Policy for the Provision of Accommodations and Support Services to Students with Disabilities and the Policy on Service and Emotional Support Animals on Campus, to determine eligibility and verification of specific disabilities.
  • Acts as a resource and consultant to faculty, Deans, and Administrators regarding disability-related issues and partnerships to support student success and equitable access.
  • Provides consultative retention strategies for students and liaisons with campus partners to complete. Uses an advanced, developmental approach rather than a prescriptive one to assist students in degree completion.
  • Provides disability consultation to all SDAC students as needed, especially during peak times.
  • Provides students with a thorough understanding of SDAC resources and the students’ responsibilities to self-advocate for services. Refers to on- and off-campus services for further assessment and advises students about…
