The Department of Marine Science at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin in fall 2026. We seek applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching, and with training in a variety of disciplines, including organismal biology, marine biology, ecology, geology and fisheries. Applicants who use an array of techniques to answer multidisciplinary questions related to applied fields such as marine conservation, fisheries and climate variability are especially encouraged to apply.

About the College

The College of Science at CSUMB offers B.S. degrees in Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Science, and Mechatronics as well as a B.A. in Environmental Studies. In addition, M.S. degrees are offered in Marine Science (in conjunction with Moss Landing Marine Laboratories) and Environmental Science. Students enrolled in the CSUMB Marine Science M.S. program take their core courses at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, located in Moss Landing, CA (a 20-minute drive north of CSUMB), but their thesis chair is a CSUMB faculty member.

All the programs emphasize the critical thinking and technical skills necessary to develop workable solutions for complex environmental problems. Unique in their approach to linking marine science to management and decision-making, the B.S. in Marine Science and the M.S. in Marine Science and Environmental Science provide students with active learning and applied research in a wide variety of marine systems.

Responsibilities
  • Teach primarily undergraduate courses (12 units/semester including up to 3 units for mentoring undergraduate and masters student research). Courses will include lecture and lab sections, including MSCI 340 Marine Ecology, MSCI 345 Marine Biodiversity and Function, and MSCI 350 Quantitative Marine Science.
