Anticipated Hiring Salary: $5,540 per month

PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Director of the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) and in consultation with other disability advisors, the Retention Advisor supports planning and is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating integrated disability support services and accommodations for eligible students. The role evaluates Retention Services for efficacy, makes recommendations, and analyzes data to support retention reporting. The Advisor performs sensitive work with students in crisis, works as a member of the Health and Wellness Services team, and is part of the Division of Student Affairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Disability Management Advising- Provide retention‑focused disability management consultation, strategies, interventions, and confidential counseling for at‑risk students.
- Determine eligibility and accommodations through intake interviews, interpretation of assessment results, and neurological reports, applying ADA, Section 504, related California statutes, CSUMB policy, and federal mandates.
- Serve as a resource and consultant to faculty, deans, and administrators regarding disability‑related issues and partnerships to support student success and equitable access.
- Offer consultative retention strategies, liaising with campus partners to enable degree completion.
- Provide disability consultation when needed, especially during peak periods.
- Educate students on SDAC resources and self‑advocacy; refer to campus and off‑campus services for assessment and specialized support.
- Develop, implement, monitor, intervene in, and modify individualized student action plans, evaluating progress through multiple methods.
- Maintain confidential files using SDAC’s system, databases, and web‑based information.
- Address complaints and conflicts concerning equal access, recommending and facilitating solutions where no precedent exists.
- Engage with students, parents, faculty, and staff for advising and support services.
- Act as liaison for SDAC students with faculty, department chairs, and deans to ensure accommodations are delivered.
- Serve as an SDAC liaison and advocate with other campus partners.
- Facilitate or delegate urgent consultations to ensure timely, case‑by‑case student consideration.
- Develop and assess the efficacy of retention services, making recommendations for improvements and efficiencies.
- Compile and analyze data to prepare retention‑related reporting.
- Uphold professional standards, policies, CSU mandates, executive orders, and procedures to serve all CSUMB students.
- Conduct in‑service workshops for students, including self‑advocacy and retention‑related life skills.
- Assist in developing innovative approaches to increase retention, meeting needs of students with disabilities for independence, wellness, and success.
- Support SDAC outreach during campus events and SDAC & Health & Wellness Services events.
