This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the PositionThe purpose of the position is to perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols.
Duties- Respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
- Exercise search and arrest authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, interview witnesses and other persons involved.
- Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
- Operate motor vehicle which may involve high speed pursuit of suspects.
- Perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
- Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.
- Use word processing and web-based law enforcement computer programs to establish, update, query or print detailed reports, forms, and citations concerning all incidents.
- Assure criminal or Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures are met to protect installation command and assure mission accomplishment.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy; or successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date; or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56:
Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation. Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT). Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP). - This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid security investigation.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
