Community Human Services (CHS) is a 55-year-old nonprofit and Joint Powers Authorities serving Monterey County, dedicated to providing high-quality mental health, substance abuse, and homeless services to its 4,500 clients annually Operating with a $17 million budget and a staff of 160 across 13 sites, CHS is seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace its retiring leader.
The key opportunity for the next CEO is to strengthen the organization's infrastructure, diversify services, and solidify new revenue sources, particularly for its vulnerable homeless programs.
The CEO reports to a 16-member Board of Directors and serves as the organization's chief visionary, manager, and ambassador. Core responsibilities include maintaining financial stability, overseeing a leadership team of four, ensuring compliance with licensing, certification, and industry standards (like CARF and Medi-CAL), and leading fundraising efforts through active solicitation and development of a comprehensive plan.
CHS requires a proven executive with five to ten years of progressive leadership experience and a deep passion for the mission. The ideal candidate must be a skilled relationship builder, comfortable as the public face of the organization, and adept at navigating the challenging funding landscape. A bachelor's degree is required (master's preferred), along with experience engaging a committed Board of Directors.
The position offers a competitive compensation package, with an annual salary range of $185,000 to $245,000, and generous benefits, including 100% employer-paid health coverage for employees and 50% for dependents.
