Overview
Police Officer Cadet - Temporary role at California State University, Monterey Bay.

Responsibilities- Attend the prescribed training sessions to learn principles, practices, and theory of criminal and civil law enforcement; receive training in report writing, physical fitness techniques, firearms use and maintenance, and arrest and control techniques.
- Under close supervision, assist police officers and police department personnel in performing their duties.
- Assist in crime prevention, enforcement of laws, traffic and safety regulations under direct supervision.
- Assist in investigations of criminal activity and participate in police report preparation.
- Provide security for large gatherings on campus; assist in connecting individuals with appropriate authorities for guidance and assistance.
- Perform other duties that enhance campus safety and assist Public Safety/Police support staff.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and other safety programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent and eligibility to attend a certified Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) basic training academy; qualify for and satisfactorily meet ongoing standards of the basic P.O.S.T. academy training.
- Physical agility to meet P.O.S.T. training requirements; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Must be fingerprinted and undergo a background check.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
- Must not have felony convictions or certain disqualifying misdemeanor/domestic violence convictions.
- Must satisfy citizenship requirements and be a minimum of 21 years of age on or before the first day of training at the police academy.
- Must be of good moral character; must pass pre-employment medical, emotional, and mental examinations and a drug test.
- Must pass a physical agility examination (WSTB) and have PELLET B scores within the past six months with a minimum T-score of 48.
- Must be able to learn university rules and regulations and interact effectively with the campus community.
You must provide your current WSTB and Pellet B scores to be considered. If you do not have current scores, indicate your planned test date and location.
Preferred Qualifications- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Tech skills in computer use, understanding of AI, and ability to utilize records management systems (RMS).
- Knowledge related to handling and use of firearms; commitment to CSUMB’s Vision Statement.
- All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
- Duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and related matters; compliance with CSU Executive Orders EO 1095, EO 1096, and EO 1097.
- Mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act; compliance with CSU Executive Order 1083.
- Confidentiality requirements regarding sensitive student issues.
- Campus Security Authority (CSA) designation; must report crimes per applicable laws and CSU policies.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license, pass Defensive Driving, and be insurable under university liability coverage.
- Designation as a sensitive position with responsibilities for safety, access, and handling of sensitive information.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, on a regular basis.
Work may include indoor/outdoor settings, inclement weather, rotating shifts, travel, and use of personal protective equipment (police uniform, duty belt, and weapon).
