We are seeking a dedicated special education teacher for the Home School Model at Stedwick Elementary School. This part‑time position (0.5 FTE) is eligible for the MCEA 10‑month salary range of $64,591 – $131,472. Applicants may apply via the official Montgomery County Public Schools website.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities. The teacher works in collaboration with the general education teacher, monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities, and assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The role requires attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
Teachers in special education schools or discrete special education service models are required to successfully complete specific courses provided by MCPS, including courses in behavioral management and non‑violent crisis interventions, and to support behavioral interventions.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education.
- Fluency in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
- Student teaching in the area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level (elementary or secondary).
- Certificate meeting Maryland State Department of Education Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education. Certification in a content area is desirable.
- Knowledge of the Montgomery County Public Schools curriculum for the grade/content range of the position and of the MCPS special education program.
- Thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research‑based reading instruction, multicultural education, and assessments.
- Ability to provide instructional support, work well with students with disabilities, teachers, and parents/guardians, and appropriately adapt instructional programs and materials.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
MCEA 10‑Month salary range: $64,591 – $131,472 based on education and experience.
