Teacher, Special Education (HSM), South Lake ES, 1.0 FTE role at Montgomery County Public Schools.
Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

Special Requirements:
Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Teachers employed in special education schools or discrete special education service models are required to successfully complete specific courses provided by MCPS. The courses are designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities, particularly courses in behavioral management which include nonviolent crisis interventions.
Teachers in these identified schools and programs will be required to support behavioral interventions.
MCEA 10 Month:
The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education & experience. For information about benefits, please refer to the district guidelines.

Knowledge of MCPS curriculum for the relevant grade/content range, MCPS special education program; thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments. Knowledge of ESSA, IDEA, and state/federal policies related to special education. Ability to provide instructional support and adapt instructional programs and materials. Excellent communication and collaboration with students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
Familiarity with the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) performance standards.
Bachelor’s degree in special education from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment. Student teaching in the area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level (elementary or secondary). Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered. Certification:
Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education. Certification in a content area is desirable.
