Residential Counselor WEAON at CSAAC

Position Summary

Reporting to the Residential Program Manager, the Residential Counselor provides direct one-to-one care and support to individuals living in group residences. The counselor trains residents in skill areas to enable them to live in less supervised environments and become active members in their communities.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a human services discipline (e.g., Psychology, Social Work) preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with autism required if the candidate holds only a high school diploma. One (1) year of related experience required if the candidate holds an Associate’s degree.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and concern in stressful situations; strong organizational skills for effective case management; computer literacy with standard business software (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail).
Essential Functions
  • Works one-to-one with residents, teaching money management, housekeeping, cooking, personal care, and hygiene; promotes socialization with roommates and community members; encourages appropriate leisure time use.
  • Develops and maintains a warm, clean, and safe home environment conducive to resident development; assists with selecting new or replacement furniture.
  • Implements the resident’s individual activity schedule; documents all activities on the weekly activity schedule.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Individual Plan; alerts the Residential Supports Advisor when the plan needs review prior to the annual review.
  • Collaborates with the Residential Program Manager to account for the resident’s individual monies; teaches money management techniques to residents with personal fund difficulties.
  • Adheres to mandatory use of the CIMS system to access, send e-mail, and report health information, data, and incidents for individuals supported in the CSAAC program.
Required Training/Professional Certifications
  • Completion and demonstration of techniques taught in the Behavioral Principles and Strategies Training (BPST).
  • Annual recertification of the BPST.
  • Driver license and defensive driver training; must operate own vehicle and CSAAC vehicles as required.
Physical Requirements

The employee regularly talks, hears, and uses hands to feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; close vision is required. The employee frequently stands, walks, bends, kneles, stoops, and lifts or moves items over 20 pounds. The employee must complete training and effectively perform non‑adverse physical interventions with autistic individuals of varying heights, weights, and levels of physical strength according to the Behavioral Principles and Strategies guidelines.

Sunday and Monday 12:00 AM‑8:00 AM; 16 hours.
