Job Summary

The Gifted Specialist Teacher at Legacy Prep is a dedicated and passionate educator responsible for creating an enriching and supportive learning environment for gifted and talented students in grades K-6. This role involves designing and implementing specialized curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of gifted learners, fostering their intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The Gifted Specialist Teacher collaborates with colleagues, parents, and administrators to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive education for all students.



Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development:
    Develop and adapt curriculum and instructional materials tailored to the abilities and interests of gifted students, ensuring alignment with state and district standards.
  • Differentiated Instruction:
    Implement differentiated teaching strategies to challenge and engage gifted learners, catering to their diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Assessment:
    Develop and administer assessments to identify gifted students, monitor their progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Individualized Learning Plans:
    Create and maintain Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for each gifted student, outlining specific goals and strategies to enhance their educational experience.
  • Classroom Management:
    Foster a positive and inclusiveoom environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning.
  • Collaboration:

    Collaborate with regularoom teachers, parents, and other specialists to provide support and guidance to gifted students within the general education setting.
  • Professional Development:
    Stay current with research, best practices, and trends in gifted education by attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Parent Communication:
    Maintain open and effective communication with parents, providing updates on student progress and offering resources for supporting gifted learners at home.
  • Advocacy:
    Advocate for the needs of gifted students within the school and district, promoting awareness and understanding of gifted education.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of student performance, interventions, and achievements, and provide timely reports to school administrators and parents. Including all necessary reporting for ALSDE's Child Find program.
  • Cultural Competence:
    Create an inclusive learning environment that respects and celebrates the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all students.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Alabama teaching certification in Gifted Education or the ability to obtain it.
  • Previous experience working with gifted students in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of gifted education principles, theories, and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and software for instruction and assessment.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of a diverse group of gifted learners.
  • Dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
