Health Sciences Teacher role at Alabama State Department of Education

Responsibilities and Qualifications for the Health Science Teacher position:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited educational institution
  • Valid license to practice as a Licensed Practical (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in Alabama
  • Certification in health science education (6-12) or willingness to work towards certification
  • Minimum of 3-15 years' experience in teaching and/or successful full-time supervisory and/or experience as a practitioner in the medical field.
  • Technical Skills (computer skills) to include effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by the Alabama Statues and State Board of Education regulations.

The Health Science Teacher shall:

  • Provide instruction to students individually and/or in groups.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community and college as applicable and the school district as well as the Industrial Medical Health Science Program.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field and subject area.
  • Teach courses as assigned by the Alabama Department of Education and the local school district ensuring an effective learning experience.
  • Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and professional work ethics.
  • Assist in the recruitment of students for the program.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the computer effectively for word processing, and electronic communications, maintain an online presence to include social media, and online teacher (i.e.) google classroom.
  • Prepare coursework, grades, assignments, projects, and examinations as required by classroom teachers within the school district.
  • Support the Cooperative Education Program by assisting with referrals of students who are eligible for the program.
  • Maintain an active CTSO for student leadership development.
  • Willingness and experience in conference presentation relative to the content area.
  • Serve on individualized education program (IEP) teams when deemed appropriate. As well as assist in the writing of IEP by attending meetings associated with students within the Career Technical Programs.
  • Coordinate and set up classroom visits with industry per program goals and needs.
  • Act as a contact person for parents/guardians and students regarding the modern manufacturing program.
  • Work with students on education/vocational post-secondary career planning to include Kuder/Clever assessment data.
  • Shall keep abreast of current trends and practices in the field of health care and through attendance at professional conferences/workshops.
  • To strengthen partnerships with local elementary/middle/high schools and the CTE programs.
  • To welcome and provide intervention support for specialized services and student needs.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the administrator to include the superintendent.
  • To attend CEU sessions per certification requirements.
  • Maintain an active CTSO for student development and leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the district's crisis team and the CTC/Annex crisis lead.
  • To attend related professional development conferences reference to counselor education, (i.e.) ALACTE, Mega, SREB, etc.
  • To demonstrate a professional medical presence with staff and students.
  • Ability to lead and conduct health care training with staff, parents, and students, (i.e.) CPR and first responder.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Terms Of Employment:
The teacher will work 187 days based on the Macon County Schools' Calendar. Salary and benefits shall be paid in accordance with the Macon County Schools' salary schedule.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job shall be in accordance with the Macon County Schools' policy for personnel evaluation.
