Special Instructions to ApplicantThe Department of Social Work and Anthropology at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications for a 9‑month tenured Associate Professor of Social Work to begin August 2026. We are expanding our BSW Program to include online and evening options, therefore candidates must be willing to teach primarily online and in person evening courses. This position is not remote and faculty are expected to have a campus presence.
Applicants must demonstrate excellence in scholarship and research as evidenced by a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications, strengths in undergraduate teaching, and a commitment to service. Candidates must also have a demonstrated commitment to social justice, online teaching, and promoting student‑faculty research.

AUM's BSW program is accredited by CSWE and is one of the fastest‑growing majors on our campus. Our program, grounded in a liberal arts perspective, educates social workers to be ethical and competent practitioners who intervene and advocate for social, environmental, and economic justice across all systems using a generalist perspective within a person‑in‑environment context.
DutiesDuties include teaching core and elective undergraduate Social Work courses (primarily online and evenings), maintaining a productive research agenda that includes publishing and presenting in professional venues, professional advising online and on‑campus students, assisting with maintaining the program's accreditation, and adding to the service mission of the university.
Minimum Qualifications- DSW or PhD in Social Work and an MSW from a CSWE‑accredited program with at least two years of post‑MSW practice.
- Alternatively, an accredited MSW with two years of post‑MSW experience and a PhD in a related field may be considered.
- Candidates must also be eligible to hold the rank of Associate Professor.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with faculty and administration across the university.
- A record of professional activities related to social work practice and education.
- An established research agenda.
- Online teaching experience.
