HDR is recognized by Engineering-News Record as a Top 10 environmental firm. HDR is looking for an Environmental Project Manager to support our Environmental Sciences and Planning Cross‑Sector in the Southeast. The position is open to multiple office locations.
The Environmental Project Manager would report within the Power Environmental Practice and be in close coordination with local leadership. This role would work closely with our Resources Business Group (RBG), which focuses on power, renewable energy, waste, and industrial projects, and the Renewable Energy Practice. Candidates should be team‑oriented with excellent communication skills capable of leading environmental planning, permitting, siting, and/or compliance projects.
They must be knowledgeable in current federal and state environmental planning and regulations, including preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. They would work with environmental leads in surrounding areas to staff and execute projects that include, but are not limited to, renewable energy and linear facilities (e.g., transmission line) across the Southeast. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the preparation of NEPA environmental assessments or impact statements, including management and oversight of associated technical reports.
Specific experience with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) NEPA requirements is highly desirable.
This position also requires demonstrated experience in directing the technical and administrative aspects of environmental studies; coordinating schedules; providing technical QA; and problem resolution to complete projects on time and within budget. They should be familiar with management of scopes and budgets, including project management tools.
Responsibilities- Plan and direct medium- to large-size environmental planning and permitting projects for transportation, water/wastewater, facilities, power, and other programs as identified.
- Prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, NEPA documents, and similar reports/documents.
- Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project’s lifecycle (from development and initiation to close‑out).
- Establish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
- Coordinate workload through entire project development, and ensure completion of documents on schedule.
- Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed‑to schedule.
- Work with Business/Accounting Manager or Project Controller and Department Manager for project reviews and with company management as needed.
- Mentor mid‑level and junior staff in field survey techniques (wetland delineations, stream assessments, etc.), permitting (primarily CWA), and in technical writing.
- Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for compliance.
- Accomplish work independently and through coordinating or supervising small to large technical and professional teams from local and regional offices.
- Support regional or national projects in specific areas of technical expertise.
- Perform other duties as needed.
