The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist Traffic Engineers and Engineering Technicians in performing technical engineering work in the conduct and maintenance of traffic engineering surveys and projects. Work responsibilities include assisting Traffic Engineers and Engineering Technicians with reviewing plats and plans, developing plans, receiving and addressing traffic-related service requests, performing site visits and field observations, and flight planning and scheduling for the departmental Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).
Distinguishing Characteristics: Positions in this classification typically advance from the entry-level Engineering Technician I. When filled from outside the organization, candidates must possess prior para-professional engineering experience and expertise. Incumbents in this classification perform more complex technical support duties. The Engineering Technician II is differentiated from the Engineering Technician I by the technical complexity of the work, including para-professional engineering, project management, and problem-solving.
The Engineering Technician II may also provide indirect supervision to lower-level engineering technicians and report directly to an Engineering Technician III or a Traffic Engineer.
High school diploma or a GED and three (3) years of technical engineering experience in the area of traffic, public works, planning, and/or transportation.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
