Job Description Overview

The Athletics Department is accepting applications for a part-time Gameday Basketball Shot Clock Operator.

Auburn University at Montgomery reserves the right once interviewing has begun to stop accepting applications. Based onfunding source, applicant cannot be or become an AUM student while working in this position.

Pay Rate: $20.00/hour

Responsibilities

The qualified candidate selected for this position will assist inthe following capacities:

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Will serve as shot clock operator for all preseason, regular season and postseason men's and women's basketball home contests as scheduled.
  • Will comply with all NCAA Division II and Gulf South Conference rules, regulations and policies.
  • Will interact professionally with all officials, coaches,student-athletes, University personnel and spectators attending thegames.

Requirements:

Serve as shot-clock operator for all preseason, regular season and postseason men's and women's basketball home contests. Comply with all NCAA DII and GSC basketball rules, regulations and policies, aslisted below.

  • Use a 30-second shot clock.
  • Use the shot clock for the entire game, including overtime(s),except when there is less time remaining on the game clock than ina shot-clock period, in which case the shot-clock display shall not display.
  • Control a separate timing device with a horn that shall have asound that is distinct and different from that of the game-clockhorn.
  • Have an alternate timing device available.
  • Start the shot clock when:
    a An inbounds player legally touches the ball after the throw-inhas been released; b. A team gains initial control following a jumpball or unsuccessful try for goal; or
    c. There is a change in team control.
  • Stop the timing device and:
    a. No reset when play is stopped under the following circumstances:
    1. The ball is deflected or caused to be out of bounds by adefensive player;
    2. A player is injured or loses a contact lens;
    3. A charged or electronic-media time out has concluded;
    4. During team control as defined by Rule 4-8, a defensive player causes a held ball and the alternating-possession arrow favors the offense;
    5. After any double personal fouls, simultaneous personal fouls, orfouls with penalties of equal gravity when there is team control,unless the penalty for the foul results in a change of team control;
    6. After an inadvertent whistle when there is team control asdefined in Rule 4-8 or following an unsuccessful try that does notstrike the ring or flange and the alternating-possession arrow favors the shooting team;
    7. After any administrative technical foul(s) is assessed to theteam in control of the ball, or to the team entitled to the ball before it is at the disposal of the thrower-in, or to the bench personnel or followers of that team;
    8. After a simultaneous held ball as described in Rule 6-4.2 occurs during a throw-in or after an unsuccessful try that does not contact the ring or flange and the alternating-possession arrow favors the shooting team; and
    9. After the ball goes out of bounds and was last touched simultaneously by two opponents,
    both of whom are either inbounds or out of bounds, or when there isdoubt as to who last
    touched the ball.
  • Note:

    The offensive team, upon being awarded the ball for thethrow-in, shall have the unexpired time on the shot clock toattempt a try.

    Reset it to 30 seconds when:
    1. There is a live-ball change in team control and the ball remains live, or following a successful goal by the opponents;
    2. Team control is reestablished in the backcourt after the teamloses control of the ball;
